Drop Out

Description

Start in the chimney BEHIND Sander's Traverse. The namesake Drop Out will be on your left. If you look carefully before starting up the first chimney you can find a small conspicuous placement to protect the move across the Drop Out.

Move a short ways up the first chimney (behind Sander's) then step off to your left, over the Drop Out, onto a dike on the adjacent wall and slip into the chimney between Solo Boulder and Sander's Traverse. Scoot to your right and you'll find a protectable crack to follow until finding the stance near the top backside of Sander's. Again, step over the Drop Out and onto a ramp/chimney located behind Solo Boulder. Two or three moves later you'll top out on the North side of Solo boulder. It sounds confusing, but when you're looking up at it, it will seem obvious. This fun route goes for the most part unnoticed, but it's worth it. It's especially fun to link Flake Crack, Walnut Bowl or Chimney Crack, and Drop Out together.

Location

The namesake Drop Out is located in the cave between Solo Boulder and Sander's Traverse. Start climbing in the chimney behind Sander's Traverse.

Protection

Small gear to protect the first step over the Drop Out, then medium size after that. The only crack found on top for a top anchor is huge and would require a BD5, 6 or Valley Giants. An easier option is to scramble up to the top of Solo boulder where multiple bolted anchors are found. Then use your rope to extend.
