Myakka State Park Boulder

Description

[Edit]

Located at (27.241978, -82.314414) just past the south entrance of the Myakka River State Park is possibly the only freestanding "boulder" in the entire state of Florida. This boulder is a sort of natural stone conglomerate, mortared together to make it roughly 9' tall and of a decent size around on all sides. There is a plaque located on the front of the boulder indicating that the park was designated in 1966.

There is no other stone located in the park, and while bringing climbing shoes could be fun, you would likely go here to ride on an air boat or see the forest canopy via a nature walk, where you can gain some more elevation by stepping up to the top of a 76 foot wooden tower that rises above the tree tops. It's a nice park, and you might even be able to touch a rock.
