Wandering Spirit

Description

An old-fashioned mountaineering route - a lot of class 3, with a few pitches of 5th class.

Find the lower end of the obvious ramp system and scramble up until you meet 5th class terrain.  Before you rope up you have the option of passing over or under a small buttress - either works.

Climb two pitches of 5th class terrain.  The crux comes near the top of the second pitch.  We moved out onto the face to the right, where the rock looked better.  (Straight up the corner looked a bit loose.)

Beyond is mostly 2nd to 4th class terrain, with one or two brief (20-40 foot) sections of 5th class.  The first of these came after turning a corner and finding a few thin moves up a short slab.  The second comes as you exit Wandering Spirit, moving around a drippy corner and up toward the sunny top out.

Location

Cross the isthums between the lakes and wander up through the boulders.  A little left from the lowest point of the wall you will find an easy entrance to the ramp system.

Protection

Standard rack. Nuts and small cams were useful in the crux. Larger cams (to 3 or 4 inches) were useful on the easier terrain.
