Description

70m rope mandatory to rappel the routeThere are lots of words that describe this route, but the most important one is LOOSE (for the love of God, wear a helmet).  The two technical cruxes (pitches 2 and 5) have excellent splitter cracks with bomber protection, but many of the easier climbing sections are crumbly and loose with very limited options for reliable protection.  Leading pitches 4-6 will qualify you for a "Choss Wrangler" merit badge.  Be especially careful as you pull yourself up onto ledges, as this is where you're most likely to rip something loose.  Getting off-route will lead you into areas with large loose blocks, so study the photos which clearly lay out the proper climbing line on each pitch. Is this a great route?  No, far from it.  It is, however, a long multipitch route relatively close to town, and it tops out on a fairly impressive feature.  If trad adventure climbing is your thing, then give it a go.It was developed ground-up rope-solo, with all bolts drilled by hand.

Location

Park at the Pima Canyon trailhead and follow the Pima Canyon trail. The curved top-out skyline of Rosewood Buttress starts to come into view on the right side of the canyon as the trail enters Pima Canyon proper.See the pics below to see where you turn off the trail and begin your bushwhack up the slopes to the toe of the buttress.  At one point, there was a trail through the shrubs, but since the Bighorn Fire burned up this hillside, the trail is no more.Work your way uphill, then begin to traverse left when you get about 100 feet from the wall.  A pair of bolts at ground level marks the start of The Diving Board.

Protection

Anchors have 2 bolts and chains. BD 0.1-#3 and some small nuts
