Koala Krack

Description

Koala Krack is a varation that adds an optional, short, wide pitch to get from the scramble area near the summit to the otherwise non-obvious rappel station. The crack is a wide, diagonal crack that climbs to the left. The crack is short and fairly easy, if wide, with a small amount of scrambling afterwards to get to the rappel station.

Start on slab to the right of Koala Krack, traverse the slab, then climb the wide crack. This takes you to a flat sandy area. Continue left, towards the cairn. The bolted rappel station is over a ledge to the right of the cairn.

Belay the follower from the rappel bolts.

Location

When you finish the last usual pitch of climbing on the North Face route, you will be on the sandy, chossy summit area where parties typically unrope. Looking up towards the summit, there will be slabs on your left. Amongst these slabs on your left, look a for a wide, diagonal crack that climbs to the left. The bolted rappel station is on the edge a ridge to the left, crossing over a small flat sandy area. As of July 2020, this rappel station it is marked with a cairn that can be seen from above, (not from the sandy area where you would unrope)
