17. Purple Gerbil

Comfortably right of the death gully, this route is in the middle of the west side of the face, left of Exposure Arete.  Climb discontinuous cracks angling slightly right towards a cleft in the rock above you.  Halfway up there is a purple Metolius cam with its little violet sling swaying in the wind.  Descend by walking uphill until you hit trees, then angle right and down a grassy slope/steps down to the base of the arete.
