Whirlpool Arete
Description
This is an archetypal, ship's prow arete problem on flawless granite with a perfect, flat landing, tucked into a shady grotto at the base of the whirlpool wall. It comes complete with its own warm-up block and wild raspberry bushes, it's two minutes from the road and across the street from a swimming hole. Even the most jaded Front Range boulderer would have to admit that it's pretty much ideal.
Start with your left hand high on the slopey rail/pinch, and jump off the ground to a tiny, oppositional divot on the right side of the arete with your right hand. A somewhat devious sequence of heelhooks and body tension will allow you to slap up the arete before exiting slightly left of the arete on positive holds. The holds can be temperature-dependent.
Protection
One pad is fine, two is cush. There is a fixed cheatstone if you're into that kind of thing. Your standard t-shirt-on-a-stick rig can be used to keep the sun off of the start hold (optional).
