The Undercling Traverse

FA unknown
CREATED
UPDATED

Description

Start standing with both of your hands matched on a crescent-shaped edge at 4.5 feet. Traverse right via a series of powerful and techy moves on sidepulls and underclings until you're situated under a small overlap at 6.5 feet. Gain the undercling in the overlap above, and make a big move to gain a good edge at 11 feet. Match here, and call it good (you can continue up for another move or two to high jugs, but these are usually covered in guano, so I tend to avoid that finish). The good holds located to the right of the overlap are off (see the topo photo). Using these reduces the difficulty noticeably and removes one of the coolest moves on the climb, which is the big deadpoint to the high edge.

This is contrived, like most of the lines at Society, but an enjoyable and challenging line with some unique movement.

Location

This problem starts on a crescent-shaped edge in the middle of The Main Wall.

Protection

A few pads are useful due to the traversing nature.
