Mud Slide

Description

Though the route as a whole is not terribly sustained, the cruxes are interesting and high-quality. A tenuous slab start leads to a horizontal crack/rail and delightful small edges, then up toward a bulge at 65 ft; negotiate a delicate crux sequence here and finish on easier highly-featured terrain.

Location

Walk/scramble to the east side of the El Nino formation and rappel down to a mildly brushy alcove just above the base of the wall. April Showers starts 25' higher up, atop blocks and shrubs. A second short rappel or steep squeeze-chimney down-climb may be necessary to reach the base of the wall and the true start of Mud Slide. I found difficulties around 5.10 when I moved left to the second bolt from the alcove, rather than start at the base of the wall. This is a reasonable variation for those with a 60M rope wishing to TR.

Protection

11 bolts, anchor/rap shuts on the large block atop the wall. 70M rope required for TR.
